플러딩은 무선 네트워크에서 모든 노드들에게 패킷을 전파하는 가장 간단하고 효율적인 방법이다. 하지만, 기본적인 플러딩은 모든 노드가 브로드캐스트 패킷을 한 번씩 전송을 하게 되고, 결과적으로 브로드캐스트 폭풍(broadcast storm) 문제를 일으킨다. 이는 네트워크 자원을 심각하게 낭비시키는 결과를 초래한다. 특히, 무선 센서 네트워크에서는 노드들은 제한된 배터리에 의해 전력을 공급받기 때문에 전력은 가장 중요한 자원 중의 하나이다. 기본적인 플러딩은 많은 중복 패킷을 생성하기 때문에 전력 소비가 많고, 무선 센서 네트워크의 수명을 단축시키게 된다. 이 브로드캐스트 폭풍 문제를 해결하기 위해서 본 논문에서는 송수신 전력세기와 중복 패킷 수를 이용한 크로스 레이어 기반의 기법을 제안한다. 시뮬레이션 결과에서 제안 알고리즘이 중복 패킷 발생수와 전송 지연 시간에서 이전의 플러딩 방식들보다 더 좋은 결과를 나타냄을 보인다.

(English Abstract) |
The flooding is the simplest and effective way to disseminate a packet to all nodes in a wireless sensor network (WSN). However, the basic flooding makes all nodes transmit the packet at least once, resulting in the broadcast storm in a serious case, in turn network resources become severely wasted. Particularly, power is one of the most valuable resources for WSNs as nodes are powered by battery, then the waste of energy by the basic flooding lessens the lifetime of WSNs. In order to solve the broadcast storm problem, this paper proposes a cross-layer approach that utilizes both the signal strength and the counter for duplicate packets. Simulation results substantiates that the proposed method outperforms previous flooding methods in respect of the number of duplicate packets and packet delivery ratio.
